Right Now, This Moment, Today

5-Day Devotional: Living in the Present Tense of God's Grace

Day 1: Breaking the Loop of Regret

Reading: Philippians 3:12-14

Devotional: Paul, who once persecuted the church, refused to let his past define his future. He made a conscious decision to forget what was behind and press toward what was ahead. Notice he didn't develop amnesia—he simply refused to let memory drive his life. Regret is a toxic loop that replays the same scene endlessly, keeping us paralyzed in a time that no longer exists. Conviction, however, leads to repentance and transformation. It asks, "How do I grow through this?" Today, identify one area where regret has kept you stuck. Confess it to God and ask Him to transform that regret into forward motion. The goal in front of you matters more than the guilt behind you.

Day 2: The God of Right Now

Reading: Exodus 3:13-15; Hebrews 3:15

Devotional: When Moses asked God's name, He didn't say "I was" or "I will be." He declared, "I AM"—present tense, right now, this moment. God exists in the eternal present, and His invitation to us is always "today." Scripture never says "fix yesterday." The urgency is immediate: "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts." Shoulda, coulda, woulda—these are all past conditional tenses requiring a time machine we don't possess. You cannot fix the past version of yourself, but God can transform the current version of you right now. Stop living in a time that no longer exists. Grace demands you show up for the time that is now.

Day 3: Peter's Restoration

Reading: John 21:1-19

Devotional: After denying Jesus three times, Peter could have drowned in shame. Instead, he swam toward Jesus. Notice what Jesus didn't do—He didn't make Peter relive his failure or explain himself. Jesus simply asked, "Do you love me?" and redirected him: "Feed my sheep." Jesus never asked Peter to fix the past; He commissioned him for the present task. Your mistakes may feel enormous to you, but Jesus doesn't remind you of them—He redirects you to your purpose. The question isn't about what you did wrong yesterday; it's about whether you love Him today. If you do, there's work to be done right now. Feed His sheep.

Day 4: Don't Look Back

Reading: Genesis 19:15-26; Luke 9:62

Devotional: Lot's wife became a pillar of salt because she looked back. She represents our human struggle with comfortable destruction—the habit, relationship, or lifestyle we know is harmful but can't let go. Looking back doesn't just slow us down; it paralyzes us completely. Jesus said, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." This isn't harsh judgment—it's loving truth. You cannot move forward while your eyes are fixed on what's behind. What are you looking back at? What comfortable destruction are you romanticizing? Today, turn your face toward Jesus and refuse to let the past steal your present calling.

Day 5: This Is the Day

Reading: Psalm 118:24; 2 Corinthians 6:2

Devotional: "This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. This day. Today. Paul echoes this urgency: "Now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation." If you have breath in your lungs right now, you have opportunity. Make the call. Send the text. Offer forgiveness. Show up fully in the room with those you love. Tell people what they mean to you. Don't wait for a better moment—this is it. The pen is still in your hand; you can start a new chapter today. Leave your shoulda, coulda, wouldas behind and truly start living for God right now, in this moment, today.
